Terms of Use

ChargeWise Health — last updated November 3, 2026. Back to the price check

1. The service

ChargeWise Health ("ChargeWise," "we," "us") republishes and organizes price data that hospitals and health insurers are required to make public under federal price transparency rules. We provide a lookup website and an application programming interface (API) for that data. By using the website or the API, you agree to these terms.

2. The data — read this part carefully

  • Every figure we show comes from a file a hospital or insurer published about itself. We show figures as published and identify the source and file date where we can.
  • We do not set, negotiate, verify, or guarantee any price. A hospital or insurer can publish a figure that is wrong, stale, or incomplete; if it is wrong in their file, it will be wrong here until they republish and we refresh.
  • A published price is not a quote. The amount you actually pay depends on your insurance plan, deductible, network status, and the care you receive.
  • Insurer "fee schedule" figures are the insurer's published standard schedule. They are not rates negotiated with any specific hospital, and our responses label them that way.
  • Nothing on this site or in the API is medical advice, legal advice, or billing advice. For coverage questions, ask your insurer; for care decisions, ask your clinician.

3. API keys and acceptable use

  • API access requires a key issued to you. Keys are personal to the person or organization they were issued to — do not share, resell, or publish a customer key. (The shared demo key built into the public lookup page is the one exception, and it is rate-limited.)
  • Each key has a daily call cap. Do not work around caps with multiple keys, and do not scrape the service in a way that degrades it for others.
  • We log API usage per key (endpoint, parameters, timestamp, response status) to operate the service, enforce caps, and understand demand.
  • We may suspend or deactivate a key that is abused, shared, or used in violation of these terms.

4. Pilots and paid plans

Pilot access is provided free for a stated evaluation period, with no obligation on either side. Paid plans, when offered, are billed in advance on the terms shown at signup; data remains the property of the hospitals and insurers that published it — a subscription buys access to our service and organization of that data, not ownership of the underlying figures.

5. Availability and changes

The service is provided "as is." We work to keep it up and the data current (the dataset is refreshed on a monthly cycle), but we do not promise uninterrupted availability or error-free data. We may change endpoints, fields, caps, or pricing with reasonable notice to key holders; we will not knowingly break a published endpoint without announcing it first.

6. Liability

To the fullest extent allowed by law, ChargeWise is not liable for decisions made in reliance on published figures, or for indirect or consequential damages arising from use of the service. Our total liability for any claim is limited to the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim, or $100 if you paid nothing.

7. Contact

Questions about these terms, a data correction, or your key: hello@chargewisehealth.com. Data corrections are verified against the source file the hospital or insurer published — if their file changes, ours follows at the next refresh.
